Words Matter! Writing is powerful. It is mind exercise. It is freedom to express ourselves through the avenue and exclusive art of writing. It heals. It is a soul cleanser. An avenue to release your inner thoughts, blessings and even frustrations. It can be an act of redemption for many, and a form of sharing and giving back to your community.
At Youth4Hope we encourage and work with our youth through creative writing (i.e. through poetry, essays or raps).
We select and post new poems, essays and raps by youth as well as adults. We provide Zoom and in-person poetry readings. We read selected poems, essays and raps at these group readings and then open the floor for a discussion on the selected subject. We have found this exercise very effective for youth as well as adults, and our guest who get the opportunity to express their thoughts and views on the subject. In these group sessions, some grieve together, many lift others up, and inspire one another in a positive way.
At Youth4Hope, we strive to bring people of all walks of lives, race and creed together to enjoy and express themselves through the art of poetry and creative writing. JOIN US NOW!
SECOND QUARTER'S WRITNG SUBJECT
Quarterly, we select subjects (often on current social issues for you to write about). Last quarter, "WORDS MATTER" was our selected subject, which we felt most appropriate as it is the name of our poetry program. Now, with the many gun violence incidents and mass shooting we see in the news, we selected GUN VIOLENCE for our SECOND QUARTER'S SUBJECT. We want poems and essays on GUN VIOLENCE. How it may have impacted your life. How you felt when you seen it on the news, or maybe read about it on social media or in a publication or unfortunately witnessed it first hand? Why do think we are seeing more gun violence and what we as a nation can do to prevent it.

Words matter in many ways
When they are wisdom spoken
Over shattering rhetoric
& promising dreams broken.
Words set the tone & direction
Of each day
& can help resolve heated disputes
In a non-violent way.
They can carry the force of good
In the balance of wrong & right
& can guide like a beacon
In a dark filled night.
Words matter to the wise
Who use them with skill
& though they may come out softly
They can carry the weight of steel.
So use them wisely
& the masses will gather
& never forget my dear youth
That words truly matter.
